A few words on the new exoplanet found in our neighbourhood!

Meet the exoplanet around our second closest star! Will we be able to visit?

Recently, the discovery of a planet around Barnard star was announced. This star is 6.2 light years away from our solar system and it is the second closest after Proxima Centauri, which is 4.2 light years away. The planet is not in the habitable zone but it is impressive that its year lasts 233 days! Its discovery required 20 years of observations (!!) and such a discovery emphasizes that research often requires no some time but ... years! Finding planets in our nearby stars strengthens the view that planets are everywhere and that almost every star hosts at least one planet. Nevertheless, even the neighbouring Barnard star is not very close, as we would have to travel with the speed of light for at least six years to get there ... And don't forget that this planet is not even orbiting inside the habitable zone of its star ...! Congratulations to the research team for their great effort and work!
